Xiaomi has introduced only a few laptops in India since launching the first Mi Notebook in mid-2020. Xiaomi appears to be targeting clean, expensive products for consumers who want more than the essentials, rather than every price range and customer profile as it does with phones. The Xiaomi Notebook Pro 120G aspires to stand out in style and function. It’s more expensive than some of the company’s prior products, but it may work for you. Read on.

Xiaomi Notebook Pro 120G pricing
Students, professionals, home users, and mobile workers may get the Xiaomi Notebook Pro 120G for Rs. 69,999. The Rs. 76,999 edition contains a separate Nvidia GeForce MX550 GPU in addition to the standard version’s Intel graphics. Xiaomi sometimes calls the cheaper model the Notebook Pro 120 (without the G for graphics), so you may see them listed separately. This is unexpected as CPU power, RAM, and SSD capacity are not customizable. All other parameters are the same.
Overall Features and Portability of the Xiaomi Notebook Pro 120G
The Xiaomi Notebook Pro 120G, like its predecessors, sports a simple design. The body has no angles or curves, save for rounded edges. The lid’s modest yet glossy Xiaomi emblem is the only thing that detracts from the simple design. The dark grey aluminum exterior has a lovely sandblasted appearance up close. It picked up little smudges over a few weeks, but they were readily removed.
Not the lightest or most portable laptop at 1.4kg. Its 15.9-mm thickness is typical. Instead of the increasingly large wall plugs, the box includes a compact 100W brick-style adaptor. This laptop’s hinge is sturdy, and the lid doesn’t shake when typing. Xiaomi’s Notebook Pro 120G boasts small screen boundaries and room for a camera. Thankfully, this matte screen is non-reflective, improving productivity.
Good keyboard layout and white illumination with two brightness settings. The power button has a fingerprint sensor. A macro key in the upper right corner may open any program or file. The keyboard keys are too mushy for my liking, but most people can adjust. I loved the little keyboard flex and stable display when typing. The big trackpad has a poor texture for swiping and other movements.
Xiaomi Notebook Pro 120G: Design and Display
The Xiaomi Notebook Pro 120G’s spectacular 2560×1600-pixel 16:10 120Hz screen is its main allure. The resolution and aspect ratio boost productivity by providing more workspace than full-HD. Xiaomi guarantees 100% sRGB color spectrum coverage and DC dimming to prevent eye strain from quick flickering. This is a premium laptop, so it’s odd that Xiaomi only offers the Core i5-12450H. A Core i7 version would have been intriguing given what else is included. But this is a 12th Gen model based on the “Alder Lake” architecture, and the “H” at the end of the part name means it’s a 45W part, which might give better long-term performance than 28W or 15W parts found in thin-and-light laptops. Four performance cores and four lesser efficiency cores give this CPU 12 threads.
Without the separate Nvidia GeForce MX550 GPU, the Xiaomi Notebook Pro 120G has poorly integrated Intel UHD graphics. For this review, I have the cheaper version. Although not upgradeable, the 16GB of LPDDR5-5200 RAM is great. A 512GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD is included. Xiaomi claims “all-day” battery life with the 56Wh battery. A 50% charge is claimed for the 100W charger in 35 minutes. Two bottom speakers fire downwards and outwards. The left side has a Thunderbolt 4 (Type-C) connection, HDMI 2.0, and 3.5mm audio. A charge status LED, USB 3.2 Gen2 (10 Gbps) Type-C port, and USB 3.1 (5 Gbps) Type-A port are on the right. It’s not much, but you can use a Thunderbolt dock or adapters to drive numerous external screens and devices. This laptop isn’t skinny or small, so more USB ports and an SD card slot would have been handy. Wireless connections include Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.
Performance of the Xiaomi Notebook Pro 120G
Introduction to general usage and usability The Xiaomi Notebook Pro 120G is a tiny 14-inch laptop, but not the lightest. The display is excellent for reading and handling spreadsheets, but its placement on this laptop may make it unsuitable for color-sensitive picture and video editing. Motion is smooth, and colors are bright. Video and game quality are fine; however, Xiaomi hasn’t mentioned brightness or HDR. After setting Windows’ scale to 175%, the UI worked better for work. To save battery life, use Windows 11 Preferences to lower the refresh rate from 120 Hz to 90 Hz or 60 Hz. It was annoying that Alt+F4 wasn’t detected unless you held down the Fn button, as many laptops change the Fn keys’ default shortcuts for popular Windows operations.
PROS | CONS |
Large, sharp 120Hz (16:10) display | The keyboard and trackpad needed improvement. |
Nice CPU, RAM, and SSD. | Average battery life |
Good build quality |
Should I Buy Xiaomi Notebook Pro 120G?
The Xiaomi Notebook Pro 120G appeals to individuals who desire a small PC at home or in the office rather than a laptop for travel. The 16:10 display, high resolution, and high refresh rate are among its most appealing features. Xiaomi also picked wisely for core hardware. User testing highlighted the keyboard, trackpad, port selection, fan noise, and battery life issues. These may seem little, but if you’re unhappy with even one, long-term use can be irritating.
