Annabelle, the demonic doll living in the Conjuring universe, has been in three movies. Here’s how they compare to each other. Even though it’s not as big as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Warner Bros. and director James Wan deserve a lot of credit for turning The Conjuring, which could have been a one-off hit, into what should soon be a $2 billion-grossing franchise. All of that was made with a budget of less than $140 million. Here’s how the annabelle movies about Annabelle stack up.

Are Annabelle movies based on a real one?

No. The story in annabelle movies is not based on any real events, and John and Mia are not real people. But the movies are based on the real Annabelle doll, which looks like a Raggedy Ann doll and isn’t made of porcelain like in the movies.

The Conjuring Universe in order of when things happened

  • The Nun (1952/1971)
  • Annabelle: Creation (1943/ 1952/1955/1967)
  • Annabelle (1967)
  • The Conjuring (1968/1971)
  • Annabelle Comes Home (1972)
  • The Curse of La Llorona (1973)
  • The Conjuring 2 (1976/1977)
  • The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (1980/1981)

Even though the quality of the Annabelle movies may vary, some people want to go back to the Conjurverse and watch the movies in order. Seeing all of the Conjurverse movies gives the Annabelle movies a bigger picture, showing how different parts of the stories fit into a bigger picture. There are seven movies in the Conjurverse, and they all have something to do with the Warren family and the supernatural things they have seen.

The best way to watch The Conjuring and Annabelle is in chronological order, which makes it easy to follow the plot and storyline:

The Nun (2018)

Sister Victoria died in 1952 in Romania, and her body was never found. This made the Vatican take action. The evil force behind the terrors is being looked into by a priest named Burke and a novice sister named Irene. But instead, they find the Evil personified as a strong nun. The demon, Valak, attacks Burke, Irene, and Maurice, but after a fight, they think they have locked the demon up. A zombie is a body without a mind, while a demon is a mind with a body. Watch the Resident Evil movies to see how they act when they see regular people.

Annabelle: Creation (2017)

In 1955, a man with a family and his wife invited Sister Charlotte and a few girls from an orphanage to stay with them. They are told not to go into Bee’s locked bedroom, but Janice goes there when she hears voices. She wants a porcelain doll, so she opens a closet to get it. Now that Anabelle is free, weird things begin to happen in the house.

Annabelle (2014)

In 1967, John and Mia were a young couple who were about to have their first child. John gives Mia a doll named Annabelle as a gift, but he doesn’t know that it will bring in a scary spirit. They move to a new place after their neighbours are killed, and their house burns down. Even though they found out that the doll didn’t burn out and was in the boxes they moved with, things still seemed strange.

The Conjuring (2013)

In 1971, Roger and Carolyn, and their five daughters moved into an old farm in Rhode Island. This is the beginning plot of the story. Not long after they get there, they hear scary noises from the evil living in the house. They call Ed and Lorraine, who is known for investigating ghosts. The detectives learn that the demon wants to take over Carolyn and use her against her daughters.

Annabelle Comes Home (2019)

In 1972, Ed and Lorraine took the doll Annabelle and locked her up in their artefacts room so she couldn’t scare people anymore. She stays put until a boring night when her babysitter, who knows about the artefact room, tries to contact her dead father. People think that all evil spirits who have died can come back to visit the living, especially on Halloween.

The Curse of La Llorona (2019)

In 1973, Anna, a social worker, and her two children, Samantha and Chris, lived in fear because of an old curse. The curse is meant to make them have the worst time of their lives, but a single woman warns Anna. La Llorona is the woman who cries in their dreams, but they will soon see her during the day. Her only chance of staying alive is a dejected priest who has gotten over his fear.

The Conjuring 2 (2016)

In 1977, Ed and Lorraine’s paranormal couple went to London to help Peggy Hodgson and her children, who were having strange things happen in their home. But a scary presence keeps them from being at peace. Strange things start to happen, and the neighbors see them. Soon, the police and the church get involved. Janet, Peggy’s daughter, is the first to be possessed. She starts to act differently, which makes the team worry.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)

In 1981, a murder suspect used possession by demons as a defence for the first time. In this case, many people are shocked, including Ed and Lorraine, who look into ghosts. After the couple tried to get rid of a demon from Arne, the demon stayed in Arne, and Ed passed out for a month. Arne kills horrifying people while possessed by the demon, and the couple and the police have to prove his story and try to stop the demon.

Who is Annabelle?

Annabelle is the name of the old doll that Mia’s husband gave her. Annabelle Higgins, played by Tree O’Toole, was one of the Satanists who broke into the Gordons’ house. This is how the doll got its name, “Annabelle.” Higgins cut her own throat (committed suicide) while holding the doll. Her blood fell into the doll’s eye, which is thought to be what made the doll “come to life.”

What happened to the doll?

As shown in the movie, the Warrens made a special case for Annabelle and put it in their Monroe, Connecticut Occult Museum. The Museum is closed until a new location is found.
