How to Fix Driver Power State Failure in Windows 10 0x0000009F Error

After the Windows 10 update, are you getting a blue screen with the error message “Driver Power State Failure”? Check for Driver Power State Failure in Windows 10 0x0000009F It is common for a computer or device driver to enter sleep mode while you are still using the device. Once a wake signal is sent to the device, Windows flags a Driver Power State Failure error if the device does not respond in time or at all. The error is usually caused by the driver or by power settings.


If the problem began after you plugged in new hardware, try removing it from the PC and seeing if the problem persists. If the issue has been resolved, you may want to update the hardware’s driver. Check each one individually if you have more than one.

If you receive the Driver Power State Failure error message on your Windows 10 device, it could be due to bad drivers, incompatible hardware, or, in some cases, incorrect power settings.

Fortunately, correcting this error is a simple process. Below are seven solutions to the error that you can try. You may not have to try all of them. Simply work your way down the list until you find one that suits you.


  • Go to Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, and then Power Options.
  • Next to the active power plan, click ‘Change power plan settings.’
  • Select the text link ‘Change advanced power settings.’
  • Depending on the computer, go to Graphics Settings or PCI Express and Link State Power Management and set it to Maximum performance.
  • Set the Wireless Adapter Settings to Maximum performance.
  • Reboot your computer and check for any additional driver power state failure BSODs.


Outdated drivers are one of the most common causes of this issue. Whether you update the device drivers manually, through Windows Update, or through a trusted third-party product, it is critical that you always have the latest correct device drivers for your operating system.

  • Expand Display adapters, right-click on the listed display adapter, and select Update driver software.
  • Select the option to search for driver software automatically and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Restart the computer to see if the problem has been resolved.

Alternatively, go to the device manufacturer’s website, download the most recent driver software, and install it on your PC. Restart Windows and check for any further windows blue screen errors.


External hardware connected to your PC can cause computer problems like this if it is not working properly. To see if that’s the problem, disconnect your peripherals (such as your speaker, printer, scanner, USB drive, and so on), then restart your computer.

If your computer works properly after removing external hardware, it means that one of your components is causing the issue. Each device should be reinstalled into your computer and tested each time. Then you’ll locate the specific device that’s causing your issue. Once you’ve identified the device, reinstall or update the driver.


  • Search for and select power options in the control panel.
  • Click Determine what the power buttons do.
  • Click Change any settings that are currently inactive.
  • Uncheck Enable fast startup (recommended)
  • Click the Save changes button.
  • Checking this may assist in resolving the driver power state failure loop.

If system components or files such as .dll, and.EXE  become corrupted or missing, especially after a Windows 10 update, your computer may exhibit unusual behavior via various BSOD errors at startup. Because your files are part of Windows, you must repair or restore them to ensure that they are in good condition.


If none of the above solutions work, it’s time to use the system restore feature. This restores the system to its previous working state, with no effect on files or folders.

  • Enter “sysdm. cpl” by pressing Windows Key + R.
  • Select System Restore from the System Protection tab.
  • Next, select the desired System Restore point.
  • To finish the system restore, follow the on-screen instructions.


Device status will be displayed in Device Manager by Windows. If your device isn’t working properly, such as if the device driver is missing or corrupted, a yellow exclamation mark will appear on top of the device icon. In this case, uninstalling the driver should resolve the problem.
